Depleted Family Values and Loneliness in the USA
About 40% to 50% of married couples in the United States divorce, according to the American Psychological Association (APA). The divorce rate among those who remarry is even higher.
The collapse of traditional values such as marriage and family, inevitably impacts the birth rate. A 2.1% fertility rate is considered the replacement level for a nation’s population; below this threshold, a nation will naturally begin to decline. Currently, the USA’s fertility rate is hovering at 1.64%, which is significantly below the replacement level.
Another consequence is the epidemic of mental health issues. Not surprisingly, since society operates as a system with intertwined causes and effects. Forty-four million adults in the U.S., or 17% of the population, have experienced some form of loneliness (a lack of social connection) in their life. … Physical consequences of poor social connections, including a 29% increased risk of heart disease, a 32% increased risk of stroke, and a 50% increased risk of developing dementia for older adults.
